Workmate is a retail operation support app created and used by one of the world’s largest fashion companies, Fast Retailing. It supports nearly 60,000 store staff worldwide with many aspects of store operations from inventory, and scheduling, to Customer service. It is installed on store iPhones and carried by every store staff while working there.

PROBLEM
How might we improve task management for store staff so they can efficiently complete and track tasks without disrupting their workflow?
Previously store operation tasks were written down on the paper task sheet by the manager which were assigned to each staff or floor manager. Unless staff memorized and remembered all tasks, they had to go back to the back room to check the remaining tasks.
SOLUTION
Designed a feature in the retail operation app, Workmate where managers can create tasks and assign them to the store staff in the app. Associates can easily check their tasks in the app and mark them off when they're done to let managers know of their completion automatically.

FUTURE UPDATES

Some managers especially at small stores complained that task creation is too tedious. There are many fields unnecessary if the store is small.
→ Simply the UI by hiding unnecessary fields and choosing tasks from task templates. Use AI or cashed data to pre-select tasks for some employees and their shift type. -
Typing details takes too much time.
→ Implement a voice typing feature to make typing easy.
